That includes Barclay's, about which this piece was posted on Fierce Wireless:

This section interested me.

Quote:
"The company applies the same philosophy towards spectrum," the Barclays analysts wrote, noting that Verizon also prefers to own its spectrum rather than leasing it. "But spectrum is a market by market decision. Some parts of DISH's spectrum would be attractive to acquire for example—and Verizon's engineers know which markets would be attractive to its current portfolio. But they don't look at the asset on a holistic basis—i.e. nationwide. Thus they don't believe it would be offered on a market by market basis. Similarly 2.5GHz is attractive as a coverage layer for 5G, but lease terms for part of it make it less attractive because it subjects the carrier to potential pricing risks down the line."

But they might be interested in doing an acquisition for content, instead. Personally, I'd be less interested in that.

I for one would be happy if Verizon stayed out of Entertainment, Advertising, Content Serving, etc...Hey if anything they should get into Business Cloud Computing...buy RIM or something and create a B2B secure communication and data infrastructure.

(One reason I say this is AT&T's acquisition ofDirectTV has really cluttered their website and stores and made it very confusing to buy AT&T wireless service and I don't want to see Verizon try to copy them.)

I'm with you on that. I don't want to see that either. The good news is that they've signaled they have no interest in doing it.

What I would really like to see is them get more spectrum. At a minimum, they should go after some more fiber.

Barclay's did not recommend that Verizon do any M&A. They suggested Verizon COULD. So who are all these others that think Verizon needs an acquisition?

Ok here's my idea. Verizon needs to build a kick butt mobile video/TV app and also offer (in the future) 5G home internet and call it....Fios mobile. Or wireless fios. Something along those lines and they will have people tripping over them self's to sign up. Fios has a great reputation and people in my area basically beg for it.

"Pretty much everyone thinks Verizon needs an acquisition."

I don't, and neither do any of my friends.
