Hello this may Be an engineering question but was wondering not who supplies the fiber feed to the vzw cell towers . I was told by Someone that the local cable companies supplies the fiber to the cell towers .... I find that hard to believe espically in the mid Atlantic Vz landline footprint. And espically now that Vz owns XO communications . I could see the cable co providing signal for sprint or something but not vzw / att

Can anyone confirm this .

Thanks

There is no one answer to this. Could be multiple providers in the same metro. Whoever/whatever is the cheaper option.

XO owns a nationwide backbone, but the last mile service is almost always a local provider (dozens in large city). If they were feeding their own towers they would deploy FiOS in the same market, such as what they started in Boston (FiOS and small cells).

Verizon uses Comcast plus they own their own fiber, formerly provided by Wide Open West until they bought their fiber network in this market. There is another cable provider, RCN, that they could also be getting backhaul from but I've heard nothing about them doing so or not. Not sure if they use AT&T for backhaul on any sites, my guess is no.

Verizon uses AT&T quite a bit out here as they don't have a landline presence for themselves. Out in "Spectrum" territory, the only carrier using them is T-Mobile, and Spectrum seems to have frequent outages which may be why Verizon isn't using them.
