This is the main reason I don't use the velocity any more. I use it only in the car and was hoping it could run without a battery, but it doesn't. I'd suppose the explore pro could since the zing (made by netgear) does. I had the explore for a few days, but never tested it on that point - i returned it since there weren't any improvements in the 44mi travel to and from work.

I'm the same way. I want to leave it plugged in and that's it. When I turn my car off, all accessories turn off so I literally have to do nothing with anything plugged in.

Question:
Does anyone know if there is a way to select which LTE band my Unite Explore hotspot uses? My speeds are 10x faster (seriously - no joke) on B30 compared to B12. I'd like to lock my hotspot onto B30 for exclusive extended use if possible. Thanks.

I've noticed that too, but it seems to use some algorithm only it knows and not sure if there's any way to control it. You can lock it on LTE only but no control below that level.

A quick google search shows that _some_ phones have a service menu that can be accessed to lock onto a particular band - Maybe the same can be done on a hotspot. More searching and maybe another thread could lead you to an answer.
