Agree, it's paranoia to think the carriers are partnering with each other to catch a few cheaters. Even a single carrier is not going to monitor everyone on their network 100% of the time. They can spot check a few.

You'd be surprised what computer algorithms can pick up, just ask the fascists that run silicon valley.

I wouldn't think carriers would be able to track a phone down on another network, If VZ could detect the truck loads of e4's getting unlocked and put on other carriers I think they'd probably stop it.. after all they won't let you use it on VZ post paid I think they'd especially not like it on another carrier where you're not any type of customer.

Or I suppose it's possible they know but have no recourse to stop it.
Does ATT or Tmo care if someones using a VZ PP phone against VZ's wishes? Probably not.. It means burning your customer to appease VZ.. I sure wouldn't care if I was running carrier.

I suppose they could try to get moto to push out a update to break stuff.
The VZ Moto E2 had a radio update that killed the GSM bands.. Moto claimed it was cause that model had poor GSM performance or some such.. but many suspect it was at VZ's insistance to shutdown the phones (they came unlocked but with GSM disabled in the settings) It took some trickery but the phone runs just fine on GSM.

That's what I've got on ATT tracfone for the last month and other than it doesn't like to go back into 4g LTE after a call (drops to H+) signal and speed is excellent.
Really like that phone, just wish it had more ram/flash space.

OP here. This is just wow! So can the switch from Verizon to ATT be done only via customer service? I ask because here's my situation - I frequently have to travel. I usually don't know in advance what carrier will be best. I currently have a Tracfone Verizon LunaPro. I am wondering if I can take another phone along (a GSM phone) and a Tracfone ATT sim, and then switch between the two phones as required? (I don't own a carrier-agnostic phone that can work on all carriers).

(It sounds too far-fetched that I'd be able to do this, but hey, Tracfone has been full of (good) surprises for me so far!)

You probably would be best served to use 2 phones for travel - one with Verizon service , the other with AT&T - and forget the whole SIM swapping approach. The cheap feature phones tracfone sells even roam - or at least did so in the past.

Even if VZ knows that a prepaid phone is being used on another carrier (by tracking or info sharing), what can they do about it, and on what basis?
1. Another carrier won't "bust" a customer and lose a line in order to appease VZ.
2. Once a phone is unlocked, isn't it legal to use it on any carrier that the phone is compatible with? If VZ doesn't want a prepaid phone to be used with a GSM carrier, why did they put GSM capability on the phone?
3. If VZ has an issue with the production/selling/buying/using unlock code, then they should use their army of lawyers to shut down the sellers. Maybe like someone said it's not illegal to unlock phones.

Does the $2 ebay unlock code truly unlock the MotoE4 for Verizon -- can the phone be activated for use on a Verizon mvno?
