Based on the other thread, you could also ask them which of the Syniverse or Ready Wireless platforms you are currently on, and to please switch you to the other one.

I realize that companies prefer to talk to users in baby talk only, using language that has no real meaning about "refreshing your profile" etc., but I would insist on talking to them in concrete terms that actually mean something. They may not go along but it might be worth a try?

Might very well be worth a try. Will let you know.

Will send out SOS to Jeff and Charles if you're listening, too. Is there any way forward here to alleviate people's concerns on this? Can you go back to the capped platform?

I just did two successive speed tests ... first was 47 ping, 4.12 down, 10.42 up, second was 27 ping, 7.18 down, 10.05 up. I can live with those but it's gotten so freaking inconsistent.

Honestly given the fact that my up speeds are always way more than my down speeds, I think I'm screwed in a spot of over-saturation with traffic. I told y'all VZW rules the roost where I am. That may be a double-edged sword.

So quick questions on Boom porting and transition. First is If I place an order for the Sim and a monthly plan, I plan on testing and try out the service for a month with a newly assigned telephone number, then if I like the results do proceed with the porting of my existing number over to Boom, and would another sim be needed? (like some of the MVNO's that do not allow the reuse of the Sim- mostly the American Movil's brands it seems)

Biggest plusses I see are possibly the faster data speeds without the 5 mbps MVNO throttling cap, VoLTE, Visual Voice Mail, Verizon Extended Network (but no roaming like I have now- with a fee of course) and possibly more high speed data compared to what I have now for the same monthly cost. Trade off and minuses is as I mentioned never able to use it in a true roaming situation, data cap is hard where the existing plan I am on has 4G up to the level in the plan but now does not shut down data but allows much slower standard non-4G throttled usage, basically 2G from what I have read of others.

I'll try to explain what is happening with Verizon's network congestion issues. All of Verizon Postpaid on the Unlimited Go Plan, Verizon Prepaid and Verizon MVNOs are using a quality of service value of QCI-9. All of Verizon Postpaid on the Unlimited Beyond and people on regular data allotment plans (postpaid) are on QCI-8, which as a slightly higher priority. Outside of the LTE prioritization, there is the APN (VZENTP) that MVNO's use with Verizon that slightly de-prioritizes the data as well.

When you see really bad data speeds on a congested tower, I guarantee you that Verizon Postpaid customers on the Unlimited Go plan are seeing the exact same behavior. You may be getting 750 kbit/sec and they may be getting 1 Mbit/sec, but it's about the same. With VoLTE (voice over LTE), the LTE priority is QCI-1, which gives that the highest priority so that people can talk on the phone. As more people start using VoLTE, more bandwidth from the LTE bands is being used up. It will help a bit once Verizon starts to re-allocate the 3G bands (band 5, band 2, etc.) to LTE. This is currently happening, but it takes time and money.

The overall problem here is with all carriers. As more people get onto the towers, they need more bandwidth...more towers! With the introduction to 5G, this is exactly what you will see and I don't think carriers have grand plans to put up a ton more old style macro sites when micro sites are the future...they have to be the future for 5G to work.

So when you vote in the next few years...make sure you look to see if your congress and local city council people are on-board with a faster process for putting up micro towers, because right now it is awful (takes months to years!) The new towers, by the way, look like a light pole...they aren't the gaudy macro tower structure you're used to. Anyway, if you want these congestion issues fixed, the technology needs to be fixed...and in America, it comes down to money and politics. Complain to your provider and vote for the right people to get the jobs done.

I want to stay with Boom- their customer support has been excellent. I'd give Boom Yellow a shot but Sprint isn't usable here. Pink is gone and Blue is business only, so I may be forced to move...

(Hopefully) final update: Boom adjusted my service earlier this week, requiring removal of their APN on my iPhone. It looks like the 5 mbps cap is back BUT data works reliably! I'll take that any day.

On the old service, my phone's IP was attributed to somewhere in Oklahoma- unsure of what the ownership was listed as. With the updated service it's attributed to "Cellco Partnership DBA Verizon Wireless".

Total Wireless has still been flaky.

I'm a happy customer.

That 5mb cap can be removed as well, please pm me your number so I can understand why it was added. Removing it will not affect your data profile
